Nine months ago we adopted a PAWS 5-year-old cocker spaniel who has major separation anxiety. We hired a dog walker during the school year and the issue seemed to stop. But this school year, my husband no longer works from home and with rising costs, we can’t afford the dog walker all the time, nor doggie day care. Meanwhile, our dog is eating the woodwork in our house and scratching all the doors. He can’t be placed in a kennel because of early abuse in his life leaves him in freak-out mode and last time we had him in a kennel, he attempted to dig and chew his way out until he broke his teeth off. He has started disrupting us at night, as well, and my husband seriously wants to give up the dog. Is there help for us so I can keep my dog? Can this dog be retrained to end the anxiety?
